SOCIETIES WITH PRESIDENTIAL CONNECTIONS
* In most cases, members of the following societies are, by definition, eligible for HOFPFLA membership. Where the societies listed have qualifying ancestors outside of our purview, the propositi in common with HOFPFLA are specified.
  • Alden Kindred of America, Inc.: dedicated to lineal descendants of John Alden of Plymouth (1599-1687), Mayflower immigrant, Compact signer, public servant, cooper, and direct ancestor of Presidents John Adams, John Quincy Adams, and Calvin Coolidge.
  • Elder William Brewster Society: dedicated to lineal descendants of William Brewster of Plymouth (1560-1644), Mayflower immigrant, colony Elder, teacher, minister, and direct ancestor of President Zachary Taylor, and First Ladies Frances Folsom Cleveland and Mamie Doud Eisenhower.
  • Pilgrim Francis Cooke Society: dedicated to lineal descendants of Francis Cooke of Plymouth (1582-1659), Mayflower immigrant, Compact signer, London "Adventurer," and direct ancestor of Presidents Franklin Delano Roosevelt, George Herbert Walker Bush, and George Walker Bush.
  • The Society of Mareen Duvall Descendants: dedicated to lineal descendants of Mareen Duvall of Maryland (1625-1694), French immigrant, public servant, planter, merchant, and direct ancestor of Presidents Harry S. Truman and Barack Hussein Obama II.
  • Pilgrim John Howland Society: dedicated to lineal descendants of John Howland of Plymouth (1593-1673), Mayflower immigrant, Compact signer, public servant, landowner, and direct ancestor of Presidents Franklin Delano Roosevelt, George Herbert Walker Bush, George Walker Bush, Nathaniel Gorham, and Sanford Dole, and First Lady Edith Carow Roosevelt.
  • Nicolas Martiau Descendant Association: dedicated to lineal descendants of Nicolas Martiau (1591-1657), Huguenot immigrant, Captain of Militia, Yorke Shire Justice, Burgess, military engineer, planter, winemaker, and direct ancestor of President George Washington.
  • The Society of the Descendants of Johannes de la Montagne: dedicated to lineal descendants of Dr. Johannes Mousnier de la Montagne of New Amsterdam (1595-1670), Huguenot immigrant, public servant, physician, minister, and direct ancestor of President Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. and First Lady Anna Eleanor Roosevelt.
  • The Monticello Association: dedicated to lineal descendants of President Thomas Jefferson. Associate membership is available to adopted children, stepchildren, and spouses of regular members.
  • The Stoutenburgh-Teller Family Association: dedicated to lineal descendants of Pieter Van Stoutenburg, whose wide properties, high positions, and many offices in public service for the colony of New Amsterdam are a matter of public record. Most notable was his position as the first treasurer of New Amsterdam (New York City). Pieter Van Stoutenburg, with Aefje Van Tienhoven, is a direct ancestor of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and First Lady Anna Eleanor Roosevelt.
  • National Society of the Washington Family Descendants: dedicated to lineal descendants of the following colonial ancestors of President George Washington: Colonel John Washington (and his brother, Lawrence); Nathaniel Pope; Nicolas Martiau; George Reade; Augustine Warner, Sr.; Colonel William Ball; and Mary Johnson Ball Hewes.
  • Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence: Seven Declaration signers were either HOFPFLA propositi or ancestors thereof: Presidents John Adams and Thomas Jefferson; pre-Constitutional presiding officers John Hancock, Samuel Huntington, Richard Henry Lee, and Thomas McKean; and signer Benjamin Harrison, father of President William Henry Harrison and great-grandfather of President Benjamin Harrison. (Other signers share common colonial ancestors with U.S. Presidents and First Ladies; DSDI members with these ancestors also qualify for HOFPFLA.)

  • The Winthrop Society: Descendants of the Great Migration: Membership is open to all men and women of good character and proven lineal descent from one or more passengers of the Winthrop fleet, or of others who settled in the Massachusetts Bay Colony and down east before 1634.   • New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS): the oldest genealogical society in the country. Early New England genealogical history is the font of the bulk of Presidential ancestry.
  • Hereditary Society Community: a compendium of hereditary societies in the United States, and a useful networking hub for enthusiasts. Includes contact information for dozens of societies, and links to those that have Web sites.
  • RootsWeb.com: the oldest and largest free genealogy Web site.
  • Genealogy.com, Ancestry.com: powerful subscriber-based genealogy sites, with access to many published works and historical databases.
