Hereditary Order of the Families of the
Presidents and First Ladies of America

EMBERSHIP in the Order is open to any man or woman 18 years of age or older, who can prove a lineal or collateral blood relationship (using standards of proof generally accepted in the genealogical community) to one or more of our propositi. Qualifying propositi include the chief executives of the following Republics, and their spouses:

  • the United States of America under the U.S. Constitution
  • the Vermont Republic
  • the Republic of West Florida
  • the Republic of Texas
  • the California Republic
  • the Confederate States of America
  • the Republic of Hawaii

and also the presiding officers of the following historic representative bodies, and their spouses:

  • the Continental Congress of the United Colonies of America
  • the Continental Congress of the United States of America
  • the United States in Congress Assembled under the Articles of Confederation

Our approved bibliography can give you some ideas of where to look for authoritative sources on the ancestries of the qualifiers. Also, browse our list of propositi for a full roster of qualifying Presidents and First Ladies.*

Annual and Life Memberships are available to all adult applicants. Junior Memberships are available for applicants under the age of 18, provided they are able to prove lineal descent from a sponsoring Member. Junior Members have the option of upgrading to full Annual or Life Membership once Junior Membership matures; the Order strongly encourages its newly 18-year-old Junior Members to stay on and continue to contribute to the Order's vitality. Memorial Memberships are available for any Member in good standing who wishes to honor a late relative by entering the relative's name posthumously into the HOFPFLA membership roster, in association with a suitable President or First Lady.

For an application form and informational literature, contact the Secretary of Registry by email, or write to Founding President Alex Bannerman at HOFPFLA's postal mail address.
